Choosing a course around your career
How to link a UK university course to a career direction, without treating the degree as a job promise.
Published 18 September 2026
A course is not an employment contract. It can still be chosen so that it sits nearer the work you want.
Name the direction, not only the subject
“I want something in business” is too broad. “I want to work with clients, with numbers or with a product” already changes the list. On this site, the career explorer groups subject areas by that kind of direction. It is a starting point, not a personal career plan.
Look at what is taught
Read the topics and the skills, not only the title. An accounting course and a marketing course can both sit beside business, but they practise different things. If you already work, look at the pace as well: evenings, weekends or full-time.
What we do not promise
We do not promise a job, a salary or that you will be accepted. Employers and universities decide separately. What we can do is set the options side by side, so you can see what is worth researching.
You can start from the course catalogue or enrol now.
