Admissions

Documents universities may ask for

Documents a UK university may ask for, and why the exact list depends on the course and your situation.

Published 15 September 2026

There is no single document list for every UK application. The university tells you what it wants, according to the course and your situation.

What often appears

Many files ask for a form of identity, evidence of earlier study and, where needed, a translation. Some also ask for proof of address, a short CV or a statement explaining why you want that course. If you studied in another language, you may be asked for evidence of English. Not every course asks in the same way.

What this page does not do

This page does not replace the university’s requirement. A document accepted on one programme may be insufficient on another. If something is missing, ask before you send an incomplete file.

How to prepare them

Keep clear copies, with your name visible, and note what is original and what is a copy. Do not send documents you were not asked for just to make the file look fuller.

If you want a list for your own situation, you can discuss it in the options check. We will not tell you that you are admitted on the basis of a form.
